Child Injury Prevention

Kids are bound to experience falls, crashes, slips, and tumbles—it’s an integral part of their childhood. However, there are simple steps we can take to ensure that kids steer clear of more severe injuries that may lead to disabilities or worse.

Child Fatality Review Team

Our dedicated Child Fatality Review Team undertakes a crucial mission – to meticulously review every child death in Kentucky. This multi-disciplinary team carefully analyzes each case, seeking insights and identifying preventive measures that can safeguard the lives of children in the future. Our commitment extends beyond addressing the immediate circumstances; we aim to contribute to a safer environment for all children through continuous evaluation and prevention strategies.

Safety Tips

Ensuring a safe environment for children is crucial for their well-being. Here are some simple yet effective child safety tips recommended by SafeKids.org:

  • Keep guns securely stored and out of reach of children.
  • Store coin lithium batteries, also known as “button batteries,” and any devices containing them, in a place inaccessible to children, as they can be extremely dangerous if swallowed.
  • Keep small objects that can cause choking, toxic substances, and sharp or hot items out of reach of children.
  • If your child participates in activities like woodworking, science experiments with chemicals, or sports like racquetball or paintball, make sure they wear safety glasses to protect their eyes from flying debris.
  • Never leave young children unattended in the bathtub, even for a short period.

According to Injury Facts, 224,935 people died from unintentional injury-related deaths in 2021.
